Name: E911.AZONE

Display Field: PSAP_NAME

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: The term AZONE’s origin is unknown. At the start of the Next Generation 911 (NG911) project several jurisdictional boundaries for service were needed. It is surmised that AZONE was the first and never renamed to be something more descriptive. AZONE depicts Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) boundaries, both City and County, for the Next Generation 911 (NG 9-1-1) project. PSAPs are located in Police Department/Sheriff Office dispatch centers and several are consolidated providing service to many departments and or cities. The Emergency Service Numbers (ESN) route the calls to the appropriate PSAP based on address or location of the wireless caller’s cell sector ping. Currently all routing is done through a tabular database linked to the Master Street Address Guide (MSAG). This database was created by the company who maintained the MSAG data which is why there are several un-used columns and duplicate ESN columns from related tables.
